Wireless audio for the iPod Classic

I’m building Continuum: a solder-free wireless audio mod that fits inside the case of your iPod Classic, right alongside the original hard drive.

Prototype 1 is on the bench; more are on the way.

The iPod Classic already does what it does brilliantly. What I wanted was a way to use it with wireless headphones without giving up any of it: the original hard drive, the wired headphone jack, the lot.

So I’m building Continuum to live inside the case. There’s no soldering involved, because thin flex ribbons plug into the iPod Classic’s own connectors.

It’s designed for the 5th, 6th and 7th generation iPod Classic. I’m sharing the build as it goes, and if it turns out the way I hope, I’d like to make it available to others who’d enjoy it too. More about me and why I’m doing this.

What Continuum does

  • Smart power sensing

The wireless radio switches itself off when the music stops, so it isn’t running when you’re not listening.

  • Analogue bypass

Prefer a cable? The wired headphone jack keeps working the way it always has, with an analogue bypass straight to it.

  • Flex ribbons, no soldering

Thin flex ribbons connect into the iPod Classic’s native connectors, so there’s no soldering and nothing to bodge.

  • Earbud remote control

Use the remote on your earbuds to control your music.

    7th generation only
